The New York Times announces death of the Soviet Union

In December of 1991, the Soviet Union finally disintegrated into fifteen countries. This collapse was looked at as a victory of freedom, a triumph of democracy over totalitarianism and evidence that superiority of capitalism over socialism. The United States was very happy that the enemy, is finally being brought down and ending the cold war. Before disintegrating, this situation had been a thorn amongst two super powers since the World War II. Because of the breakup of the two super powers, the entire world had entered into a political situation that was effected by all.
