On October 1, 1949, Mao Zedong proclaimed in Beijing the Peoples Republic of China, and increased the world communist rolls by 25% in one day.

The formation of the communist Peoples Republic of China was the end of a long struggle in which Mao defeated Chiang Kai-Shek, leader of the Chinese Nationalist party, who’s efforts had been supported by American arms and financial aid.
